On July 5, the Training Program 2026 on Enhancing Engineering Competence for Chinese and Foreign Engineers (Energy and Power Sector) opened in Beihai, Guangxi. Co-sponsored by the China Engineers Consortium, undertaken by the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering, and supported by China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd., the event takes Building Foundations for Future Energy, Connecting the Smart Grid along the Silk Road as its theme.

Yew Siew Fong, President of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia; Shen Yanhong, Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering; Li Jianshe, Chief Engineer of China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd.; Wang Honggu, Vice Chairman of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Association for Science and Technology; and Gu Jijiang, Deputy General Manager of China Southern Power Grid Guangxi Power Grid Co., Ltd., attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. The opening ceremony was presided over by Hu Fan, Secretary-General of the Expert Committee of China Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd.

The six-day training program attracts more than 100 engineers engaged in energy and power sectors from China (including Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions) and 15 countries across ASEAN, South Asia, Central Asia, the Middle East and Africa. During the program, keynote presentations will be delivered on topics including the application of artificial intelligence in power industry, status and potential of renewable energy development, and future energy systems. Participating Chinese and foreign engineers will also conduct technical visits and exchanges at Shenhua Power Plant, the largest clean coal-fired power plant in Guangxi.

As an important initiative launched by the China Engineers Consortium to promote international exchanges and cooperation among engineers, this training program aims to build a professional platform for mutual learning between Chinese and foreign engineers, deepen pragmatic international cooperation in the energy and power sector, jointly improve engineers’ capacity for international collaboration, and support the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative.
