On October 24, the 2025 China-International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Cooperation Steering Committee Meeting was held in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. Wang Hongzhi, Administrator of China's National Energy Administration, and Francesco La Camera, Director-General of IRENA, attended the meeting.

Representatives from China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the China-IRENA Cooperation Office, and the leading units of five special working groups—energy transition, hydropower, solar energy, hydrogen energy, and power grids—participated in the event. The meeting reviewed the progress and achievements of bilateral cooperation over the past year, spoke highly of the cooperation results, and made arrangements for future work.
Wang Hongzhi stated that under the "1+1+N" cooperation framework consisting of the Cooperation Steering Committee, the Cooperation Office, and multiple special working groups, the foundation of China-IRENA cooperation has been continuously consolidated, with a sustained positive development momentum. China unswervingly fulfills its commitments to carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, and the new round of nationally determined contributions announced at the UN Climate Change Conference has injected strong confidence into the global development of renewable energy. Facing the challenges of global renewable energy cooperation, China is willing to work with IRENA to shoulder the historical mission of promoting energy transition and achieving sustainable development, strengthen coordination and cooperation on international multilateral platforms, call for a fair and non-discriminatory international trade environment for clean energy products, and jointly safeguard the sound development space for renewable energy.
La Camera expressed gratitude to China's National Energy Administration for its support for IRENA's core mission as a trusted partner that contributes practical solutions over the years. The two sides have successfully built the "1+1+N" cooperation framework, mobilized China's strong industrial strength, strengthened joint research and analysis, co-hosted high-level events and technical seminars, carried out extensive cooperation on technological and policy innovations and practices, and jointly promoted global energy transition. IRENA is willing to continue to strengthen cooperation with China to achieve a just and inclusive energy transition through joint efforts.
During the meeting, Wang Hongzhi and La Camera signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Strengthening Cooperation between the National Energy Administration of the People's Republic of China and the International Renewable Energy Agency, clarifying the direction and path for future bilateral cooperation. Li Sheng, President of the HydroChina Corporation, and La Camera signed the Voluntary Contribution Agreement on the Study of Environmental Impacts and Benefits of International Photovoltaic Power Plants, opening a new chapter of intellectual cooperation between the two sides.
Lu Junling, Chief Economist of the National Energy Administration, and the main responsible comrades of the Planning Department, New Energy Department, International Cooperation Department, and Personnel Department of the Administration also attended the meeting.
