I. Output of Raw Coal, Crude Oil and Natural Gas and Related Indicators
Raw coal output stays at high levels
In May, industrial enterprises above designated size produced 400 million tons of raw coal, a year-on-year drop of 1.7%, with a daily average output of 12.81 million tons.
From January to May, the raw coal output of industrial enterprises above designated size reached 1.98 billion tons, down 0.3% year-on-year.
Crude oil output registers steady growth
In May, crude oil output of industrial enterprises above designated size stood at 18.57 million tons, rising 0.5% year-on-year, with the growth rate slowing by 0.7 percentage points from April. The daily average output hit 599,000 tons.
From January to May, the crude oil output of industrial enterprises above designated size totaled 91.31 million tons, up 1.1% year-on-year.
Decline in crude oil processing widens
In May, crude oil processing volume of industrial enterprises above designated size amounted to 53.72 million tons, falling 9.1% year-on-year, with the decline widening by 3.3 percentage points versus April. The daily average processing volume was 1.733 million tons.
From January to May, crude oil processing volume of industrial enterprises above designated size reached 292.80 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 2.2%.
Natural gas output slips slightly
In May, industrial enterprises above designated size produced 21.7 billion cubic meters of natural gas, a year-on-year decline of 2.2%, compared with a 1.9% growth in April. The daily average output was 700 million cubic meters.
From January to May, natural gas output of industrial enterprises above designated size hit 111.7 billion cubic meters, up 1.7% year-on-year.
II. Power Generation Performance
The growth rate of power generation by industrial enterprises above designated size accelerated. In May, power generation reached 784.3 billion kWh, growing 4.2% year-on-year, 1.6 percentage points faster than April; the daily average power generation was 25.30 billion kWh. From January to May, total power generation stood at 3,912.9 billion kWh, a year-on-year increase of 3.6%.
Breakdown by power source in May: the growth of thermal power slowed down; hydropower and solar power saw faster expansion; nuclear power and wind power reversed declines to register positive growth.
- Thermal power output rose 2.1% year-on-year, with the growth rate down 1.0 percentage point from April;
- Hydropower output grew 13.0%, accelerating by 0.8 percentage points;
- Nuclear power output increased 5.0%, in contrast to an 8.7% drop in April;
- Wind power output edged up 0.5%, compared with a 5.0% fall in April;
- Solar power output jumped 12.1%, with the growth rate picking up by 5.0 percentage points.
